We credit our success in the window design industry to relationships with key vendors who provide outstanding support and valuable resources; the key to Custom Drapery Designs’ continued growth. We recently visited with our sales representative for Kravet and Lee Jofa, and quickly discovered exciting new fashions in color, trends in texture, style, and beautiful high quality fabrics at affordable prices, …… and on and on. After our visit, Custom Drapery Designs was inspired with fresh ideas – amazingly dictated by the fabric’s style and vibrant color.
The textile industry is alive with so much movement, modernization and breathtaking new direction. With this new energy, we were curious to learn more, so we posed questions to Jana McCurdy, our Kravet Fabric and Lee Jofa sales representative, and the discussion was worth sharing:
When visiting last week, I was impressed with the latest fashionable colors and adorned fabrics by Oscar de la Renta for Lee Jofa. When bringing fashion to the interiors, which colors have left the runway to dress our homes this season?
Fabrics play an extraordinary important role in fashion and home interiors. Fashion begins on the runway and is then translated into home interiors. There are many fashion styles to chose from. For example, Calvin Klein offers cool elegant taupes and greys in transitional designs and textures. Oscar de la Renta caters to the high end designer that is looking for pops of color such as eggplant, red, yellow and classic blue. The attached images are fabric patterns that were taken from Oscar de la Renta’s fashion line and are now offered to the interior designer.
What are the top selling haute couture fabrics featured currently by Lee Jofa?

Equally exciting are the new Ralph Lauren fabrics for Kravet. What are the colors and prints highlighted in the latest collection? Ralph Lauren and Kravet have also introduced the Lauren Americana collection. What are the key elements to highlight with this collection?
Ralph Lauren offers fabrics that are classic traditional and lifestyle oriented.
The latest collection from Ralph Lauren is the Heiress collection. Mr. Lauren does an outstanding job of creating “lifestyle” collections. He envisions a particular lifestyle and creates a collection of fabrics that fit that lifestyle. The Heiress collection consists of fabrics that are elegant and luxurious with a hint of glamour. The ivory damask pattern on a soft silk/linen blend ground cloth is a gorgeous fabric for the window. The subtle silk stripe works beautifully with the large scale damask on a linen groundcloth. The solid taupe with a touch of metallic woven throughout will give any room a hint of glamour. This fabric collection can be used in any area of the home and will make you feel like you are living the life of an heiress.

The Lauren brand of fabrics are classic traditional and also very affordable. This category of fabric consists of linen and cotton floral prints as well as upholstery weight fabrics and matelasses. The colors are classic traditional colors such as blues, deep reds and brown. The fabrics are timeless.

What are the top selling prints featured currently by Kravet?
The top selling prints from Kravet are Lorton and Latika. Both of these prints are screen printed on a linen groundcloth.
Kravet has also introduced the Kravet Smart collection. What are the key elements to highlight with this collection?
Kravet Smart is a category of fabrics that are created to allow the consumer to have a high quality fabric at an affordable price point. The fabrics in this category consist of upholstery weight, silk, faux embellished silk, 118″ sheers and silk velvets. Many of the upholstery weight fabrics from Kravet Smart are free when they are used on any of Kravet’s furniture frames. Kravet Smart can be summed up in one word “VALUE”.
Thom Filicia is the latest designer to collaborate with Kravet. What are the key elements to highlight with this collection?
Thom Felicia is an interior designer that is well known for his part in the hit television show “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”. His fabric collection offers designers a transitional style at a low to mid price point. Thom Filicia’s focus as an interior designer, has always been with his clients. Thom finds a way to truly tailor his client’s homes to a lifestyle that is uniquely their own. His new fabric collection for Kravet is a way to introduce a style, he says, that is “fresh, modern and accessible”. His fabric represents these ideals through a selection of prints and weaves in contemporary patterns and colors like yellow, grey, blue, orange, and natural. He is known for his thoughtfully personalized interiors, which feature richly layered textures and colors for a lived-in yet highly sophisticated look.

When reviewing the latest Kravet and Lee Jofa fabric collections, what is expected to be the hottest trend in fabrics this season: texture, color combinations, print? i.e. big flowers or murals with painterly effects or brush stroke prints on linen and silk.
The hottest trend this season seems to be all shades of the color purple (raisin, eggplant, lavender). Kravet is introducing a new collection from Kravet Couture that consists of traditional and transitional weaves and silks in fig (purple), blanc (light neutrals), and indigo (classic blue). This is the first time in several years that Kravet has created a collection that is heavily focused on the color purple. Lee Jofa’s new Oscar de la Renta collection includes purple as well.

Which textile looks to be in high demand this season: embellished sheers, embroidered silks and sheers, geometric modern designs, the exotic Ikat patterns, large prints on heavy linens and cottons, textural weaves?
Design is becoming more tailored and clean, therefore less is more. Tassel trims are used less often and tapes and gimps are used more often since they give a room a tailored look. Solid textures in neutral colors are used on the large furniture pieces and geometric and Ikat fabrics are popular for small accent furniture pieces (example -small chairs, benches, and ottomans). Linen sheers and linen (prints and solids) are in high demand for dressing the window. Barbara Barry and Windsor Smith have been very popular across the country and they are gaining strength in Texas as well. Dallas, Texas is beginning to embrace a cleaner more tailored style, therefore collections such as Barbara Barry, Windsor Smith, Candice Olson, and Thom Filicia are becoming “high demand” fabric collections for the home.
